Band Wagon – Part 2

“The Band was rebelling against the rebellion. The rebellion went to a place where it became too obvious, too trendy, like you were just following the pack. So it was our choice to get off the bandwagon- no pun intended- and do things that were in our background and what was the most honest thing to do.”
– Robbie Robertson

I think everything you need to know about the Band’s history can be learned from watching the landmark concert film The Last Waltz which features tons of guest stars as well as revealing interviews with the Band. From their bar band days as the Hawks to their wild days with Bob Dylan, the Band was about keeping it real and having fun and that ethos still shines through in their music (even though years of partying and life on the road eventually took their toll and killed the Band). I think it was The Last Waltz that first got me researching and listening to the Band’s music some fifteen years ago and it’s been fun going back recently and digging through all their great songs (most of which were written by Robertson). Here are some more of my favorites. Enjoy!
