Soul by the Dozen VI

I was in college when I really started digging deep into soul music- ‘70s funk especially- and many soul classics in my collection still sound fresh, cool, and funky. One great thing about classic soul music is its wide crossover appeal. Back in the ‘70s- before radio became segregated- Top 40 stations played the biggest hits from a variety of formats- pop, soul, rock, country, disco- back to back as long as the music sounded good and people liked it. Here are some more of my favorite soul songs. Enjoy!

Al Green

01. Sly & the Family Stone – “Family Affair” (1971)
02. Al Green – “Tired of Being Alone” (1971)
03. Marvin Gaye – “What’s Going On” (1971)
04. Rick James – “Super Freak”  (1981)
05. Diana Ross – “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” (1970)
06. Luther Ingram – “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want to Be Right” (1972)
07. Carl Carlton – “Everlasting Love” (1974)
08. Gladys Knight & the Pips – “If I Were Your Woman” (1970)
09. Al Green – “Take Me to the River” (1974)
10. The Trammps – “Disco Inferno” (1976)
11. Marvin Gaye – “Sexual Healing” (1982)
